• WELCOME to HEALTH EDUCATION with Mr. Nichols

    Dear Parent or Guardian,

Your son/daughter is beginning Health Education class. The course is based on the New York State Education Department syllabus for Health Education, stressing a Health and Wellness curriculum. The Health Education program is designed to help adolescents understand themselves, family and peers. It builds self-esteem and self-confidence through communication, decision-making, goal setting, and critical thinking skills. In addition the students will study facts on nutrition, physical fitness, drug education, teen sexuality, HIV/AIDS, safety, first aid and other Health related topics.

In the past parents have had questions about the sexuality and HIV/AIDS units. We will be providing further information on these areas later in the year. Our goal is to guide students to a healthy lifestyle through good critical thinking and decision-making skills. We will have a meeting to address the sexuality and AIDS units approximately two to three weeks before the units start. At this meeting a topical outline for this unit will be provided and discussed, Parents' rights and responsibilities will also be reviewed. Any questions or concerns may be addressed at this meeting.

Health Education is a life-long process which has its beginning in the home. It is essential that we work together to help our youth make legal, safe, respectful and healthy choices. If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please contact me at your earliest convenience. THANK YOU, I am very much looking forward to working closely with you and your child this year!

    Sincerely,

    Bryan J. Nichols
