Below is a list of the class advisorship, academic, and extracurricular clubs that you may be interested in checking out and joining!

Senior Class

Let’s Talk About Music & Theater!

Club Name: MidKnight - Vocal Ensemble

Club Advisor: Mrs. Swift

Description of Club: Students are exposed to a variety of genres of music and incorporate dance from a professional choreographer. Students perform in the community at events such as Cabaret and the show choir festival. Students meet weekly from 2:30-3:30 pm on Wednesdays.

Club Name: Knightly Players

Club Advisors:

Mrs. Elizabeth-Anne Roberts & Mrs. Swift

Description of Club: Students are exposed to all aspects of theater, including dialogue, dance, singing, and stage work. Club members prepare a talent show and a musical for the community. Students learn the skill set and tools needed to audition, rehearse, and perform on stage.

The Knightly Players sell poinsettias every year in the winter, host the annual talent show at the middle school in November, and perform in the spring musical. They will often take a trip to see musicals locally or even in NYC!

Club Name: Golden Knotes - String Ensemble

Club Advisor: Mr. DePalma

Description of Club: String ensemble is open to students who wish to perform a variety of genres of music (pop tunes, video game themes, movie music, etc.) arranged for a string orchestra. Students perform at events such as the Winter Concert and Cabaret. We rehearse weekly on Mondays.

Club Name: Tri-M Music Honor Society

Club Advisor: Mr. DePalma

Description of Club: A Tri-M Music Honor Society chapter opens up a world of opportunities for students who have already shown themselves to be academically capable and musically gifted. Through performance and community service, students will develop confidence, creativity, critical thinking, compassion, and a host of other leadership skills sure to serve them well in school and beyond. Tri-M Membership is offered on a recommendation basis by music faculty to students who maintain a B+ average in Music courses and a C+ average overall. Accepted students must maintain their academic standing and participate in various Music activities to earn points throughout the year. We also participate in fundraisers throughout the year, Getrude Hawk Candy, Utica Coffee and plan and organize Cabaret!

Club Name: Jazz Band

Club Advisor: Ms. Kelly

Description of Club: Students perform quality music in jazz styles and develop improvisation and ensemble participation skills. Joining will allow you to develop the art of listening in ensemble settings, while introducing student musicians to the basic elements of improvisation. Band members create positive and meaningful experiences through contact with guest artists. The jazz band performs at concerts and the annual Cabaret showcase!

Academic Clubs

Club Name: National Honor Society

Club Advisor: Mrs. Carroll

Description of Club: National Honor Society recognizes high schoolers who meet high academic standards. Juniors and seniors with a cumulative GPA of 88+ will receive an application to apply for National Honor Society. Candidates will then be evaluated for admission based on the ideals of scholarship, leadership, character, and service. Members of the club must maintain their academic standing and also participate in community service projects throughout the year. Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month.

Club Name: International Club

Club Advisor: Mrs. Hansen

Description of Club: Explore other cultures as a member of International Club! Sample treats from cultures all over the world with our Universal Yum boxes once per semester, and do International themed crafts.As a member you’ll have a say in the club’s other activities such as fundraisers, trips to local restaurants, and charity projects. International Club also plans Holland Patent’s biennial trip to Montreal! All students in grades 9-12 are welcome to join, studying a language is not required,though it is encouraged! This club meets the second Tuesday of every month in Mrs. Hansen’s room. Officers are voting on at the beginning of the year.

Club Name: STEM Club

Club Advisors: Mr. Smith & Ms. Nuccio

Description of Club: The purpose of the STEM Club is to allow students to engage in project-based learning activities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. We also compete in a local science competition yearly at MVCC.

Club Name: Math Club

Club Advisor: Ms. Szot

Description of Club: Math Club is for students who have a love of mathematics and want to work together to solve various challenges. Students will work collaboratively on problem solving activities and with an end result of competitions within the group. During the club students will be challenged academically while enjoying time with their classmates and having fun! This club is open to all students grades 9-12 and all levels of math.

Club Name: AV Club

Club Advisor: Ms. Szot

Description: Students prepare a weekly digital presentation of the upcoming events of the school as well as a quarterly video recapping all of the accomplishments of the student body. We use graphic design and visual aesthetics to share important information about the high school.

Club Name: Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA)

Club Advisor: Mr. Carroll

Description of Club: Kickstart your career and develop top-notch business and leadership skills with the Holland Patent FBLA. We have meetings twice a month where you get to brainstorm new ideas with fellow students and our FBLA Student Executive Board. You'll also be part of amazing events throughout the school year, all designed and organized by you and your peers. Gain a competitive edge by showcasing your business knowledge and public speaking ability in exciting regional and state events. Build standout business plans, create amazing resumes, and dive into stock market and business management simulations, competing against other students across the state and country. You can make a genuine impact by helping to grow our presence in Holland Patent with the Knights’ Corner Store, community events, and engaging in state charity work. Hard work and determination are rewarded in business, and by helping us make a difference, you could earn a Senior Scholarship Award through FBLA. Join us and start paving your way to success today!

FBLA Stock Market Challenge: Members test their investment skills against FBLA groups from across NY State.
FBLA Spring District Competition Achievements: 1st-4th place wins last year.
FBLA NY State Leadership Conference: Held in the spring.

Club Name: Future Farmers of America - FFA

Club Advisor: Ms. Lamb

Description of Club: The number one myth about FFA is that it’s “just for farmers”. Although this organization does have its roots centered around the most important industry to human survival - it also is the leading organization for leadership development and career success. We are constantly busy all year hosting our “HP FFA Day” in the fall, attending State and National FFA Convention, competing in lots of different contests - both agriculture based and leadership based - and growing both in our agricultural knowledge and professionally. Come check out all that FFA has to offer!

Club Name: Student Council

Club Advisors: Ms.Viel & Mr. Batson

Description of Club: This club represents the high school student body in matters concerning student issues by voting for members of each class to represent the greater good. One of the key initiatives of the club is to advocate for changes that would benefit the students. This group organizes homecoming activities, as well as seasonal spirit weeks, and pep rallies. They participate in community service projects and school wide charity drives. Club members will often go to the state leadership conference, which is held at different locations around New York State the Sunday through Tuesday before Thanksgiving in November. Lastly, this group organizes the Snow Ball semi-formal dance which happens typically in January or February.

Elected officials and representatives are mandated to attend meetings, but the club is open to anyone who is interested in cultivating positive school culture and climate.

Timeline of StuCo Events:

September-October - plan pep rallies, spirit week, and Homecoming celebration, including the dance
November - statewide leadership conference (NYSCLSA)
December - Holiday Hoopla Spirit Week
January-February - Winter spirit week and SnowBall (Winter formal)
March-April - regular meetings and seasonal planning
May-June - next year’s elections and planning

Special Interest Clubs

Club Name: HP Readers Book Club

Club Advisor: Mrs. Horwat

Description of Club: This is a club for avid readers! We will begin with a list of books that cover a variety of genres, topics/themes, and formats (fiction, nonfiction, novels in verse, graphic novels, etc.) and decide which ones we want to read. We can choose together whether or not we want to participate in the regional Battle of the Books clubs who compete at the end of the year, but whether or not we join, we will meet bi-weekly to discuss the books we read. Book discussion days will involve fun activities, camaraderie, and discussion, and if we join the regional B.O.B. organization, we will also play games to help us learn the material and prep for competition (buzzers, quiz-bowl style) on alternating meetings. Books will be what’s popular now as well as some classics; whichever the students choose.

Club Name: E-Sports

Club Advisor: Mr. Ferris & Ms. Kupiec

Description of Club: Students that are interested in playing video games are encouraged to participate in E-Sports. We meet after school about once a week and usually pick a game to play as a group. Most of our games thus far have been “party” style games that can have multiple people playing at once. These games include Rocket League, Smash Bros, Mario Kart, etc. We are open to trying most any games rated T or lower as long as accessibility is not an issue. We also have begun to host multi-school events with other districts.

Club Name: DnD Club

Club Advisors: Mr. Clark

Description of Club: Dungeons & Dragons Club - We play DnD! We split off into multiple small groups that are led by student DMs as we venture through fantastical worlds. If you ever wanted to bring your imagination to life, this is a great opportunity to do so! Experienced players will walk you through character creation and the basics of the game and help you as you go on epic adventures with your friends right by your side!

Club Name: Knightly Bakers

Club Advisor: Mrs. West

Description: For any student interested in culinary arts and wish to put their culinary skills to use. Possible activities include: gingerbread houses (Halloween and Christmas), healthy snacks, and monthly themed birthday/holiday celebrations. Meetings are held monthly.

Club Name: Students Against Distracted Driving

Club Advisor: Mr. Donatelli

Description: SADD focuses on students making better decisions while driving. Students Against Distracted Driving will continue to have its annual video contest again this year. Individuals or groups of students in school can create their own personalized video that focuses on the dangers of distracted driving or driving while impaired. Students can use any type of motorized vehicle for their demonstration. In previous years, SADD also organized a mock crash involving five local fire departments, ambulance services and the Oneida county Sheriff’s department. At the end of the demonstration, the Mercy Flight helicopter even landed at the high school.

Club Name: Yearbook Committee

Club Advisor: Mrs. Morgan & Mrs. J. Sullivan

Description of Club: This club is dedicated to designing and creating the Hollander. Throughout the course of the year students will choose the cover of the book, organize the layout, design specific pages, take photos at various events, and make all decisions in illustrating the yearbook. Meetings are held twice a month to accomplish these goals. If you are interested in photography and graphic design this club is for you!

Club Name: Friends of Rachel aka Kindness Club

Club Advisor: Mrs. Riemenschneider

Description of Club: Rachel’s Challenge addresses the root causes of school violence, bullying, prejudice, and self-harm through a student wellness club that builds connection, hope, and resilience. We improve school culture so that students are able to reach their full potential academically, socially, and emotionally.

Club Name: Varsity Club

Club Advisors: Ms. Viel and Mr. Bateson

Description of Club: This club is for any JV or Varsity athlete who is interested in and willing to promote mentorship in conjunction with athletics at Holland Patent. The club’s mission is to teach others about leadership, grit, and integrity while helping give back to the community. Student athletes will work with youngsters to teach various skills that make sports at HP excellent.

Club Name: HP Gardening Club

Club Advisors: Ms. Szot and Mr. Arcuri

Description of Club: Students are provided with a space to engage with nature, learn about plans and gardening, and develop practical skills while fostering a sense of community and responsibility. We work together to beautify HS grounds/courtyard and learn the value of teamwork to accomplish a common goal.
