A Melodious Evening: Spring Orchestra Concert Showcases Student Talent
The Holland Patent High School Auditorium was filled with beautiful music on May 13 for the annual Spring Orchestra Concert. The evening featured captivating performances by the High School Chamber Strings, Sinfonia Orchestra and Concertino Orchestra, all expertly led by conductor Mr. Shawn DePalma.
The Concertino Orchestra opened the program with spirited renditions of "Ode to Joy," the lively "Pepperoni Pizza Rock" (featuring solos by Clara Poland on violin and Skylar Staley on viola), and the iconic "We Will Rock You." Their energy and enthusiasm set a wonderful tone for the evening.
Next, the Sinfonia Orchestra took the stage, delivering powerful performances of "Seven Nation Army" and the graceful "Birds of a Feather," showcasing their growing musical maturity.
The High School Chamber Strings then presented a sophisticated selection, including "Fantasia on an Original Theme" (highlighting a solo by Nicholas Race), a medley titled "The Magical World of Pixar" (featuring solos by Reily Cieslak and Holly Buchanan-Wise), and "Allegro from Symphony No. 17." Their technical skill and artistry were evident throughout their performance.
The concert culminated in a powerful 7-12 Orchestral Finale of "Medieval Wars," bringing together the talents of students across grade levels for a truly impressive conclusion to the evening.
Beyond the captivating performances, several students were recognized for their achievements and dedication to music. Violinists Lucus Crowe, Clara Poland and Jacob Dobreski, along with bassists Mason Erny and Evan Kenny, were celebrated for their participation in the OCMEA All-County Festival. Additionally, Holly Buchanan-Wise, Dariusz Sargent, Elizabeth Buckland, Jacob Dobreski, Nicholas Race, Alaric Lyne and Isabella Hobin were recognized as members of the Tri-M Honor Society, acknowledging their musical excellence, scholarship, character and service.
