GWF Second Graders Present "Go Fish!" Musical

The hallways of GWF Elementary School recently buzzed with excitement as the second-grade classes presented their captivating musical, "Go Fish!," on May 29. Under the direction of music teacher Mrs. Gutowski, students showcased their talents through songs, dances, raps and speaking parts to tell a heartwarming story of friendship and acceptance.

The musical followed a Tiger Shark who longs to befriend other fish in the ocean. Initially, the other fish are hesitant to connect with a shark, but through the narrative, they collectively learn that their differences are what ultimately make them better friends. The central message, "How boring it would be if we were all the same!," resonated strongly with the audience.

Mrs. Gutowski guided the students through the various aspects of putting on a musical. The vibrant costumes, reflecting the "Colors of the Sea" and the diversity of ocean life, were a collaborative effort, developed by Mrs. Gutowski, the Knightly Players and creative second-grade parents. The stage was filled with an array of characters, from cowboy seahorses and brightly colored clownfish to various sharks and even an electric eel.

Beyond their vocal and dance performances, the second graders also gained valuable practical experience. They learned essential performance skills, including how to properly use a microphone and the importance of improvisation -- a key lesson in "the show must go on!" spirit.

The success of "Go Fish!" was a true community effort. The Holland Patent Central School District extends its gratitude to the entire second-grade team and the HP music department for their invaluable assistance. A special thank you also goes to the Golden Knights PTA for providing a well-deserved snack of Goldfish crackers and water after the performance. Everyone involved had "Oceans of Fun" turning the "Commotion in the Ocean" into a truly memorable musical experience!
