Success in this course requires substantial responsibility, motivation and cooperation. All students are required to maintain an 85 or above average at all times! Your preparation, attention and attendance are extremely important!

    Materials Needed:

    • Science notebook (spiral) or 3-ring binder – your preference
    • 2 folders and loose-leaf paper

MP Grading Policy: Each MP counts for 20% of final grade

    • Laboratory Work / Reports …………………………….. 35%
    • Participation…………………..………………………………….10%
    • Quizzes ………………………………………………………………20%
    • Unit exams……………………………………..………………….20%
    • Homework/Writing assignments.……………………..15%

Mid-Term and Final Regents Exam count for 10% each of final grade

    * All work MUST be in on time.  For every school day work is late there will be points deducted from the overall average up to a maximum of 20 points.  It is extremely important you do not fall behind!

** If you are absent you must make up the class work and/ or laboratory time with me by the next possible class.  Make-up work can be set up for after school or during a study hall.  It is your responsibility to see me for available times. I am free Periods 1 and 3, and after school.

    Laboratory Work:

It is mandated by NYS that all students complete 1200 minutes of satisfactory lab work.  Without this lab work you will not be able to take the Regents exam and will fail the course.  All labs will follow a given laboratory format and if I feel the lab does not represent reasonable care & effort, or your best work, the lab will be returned for editing.

I am looking forward to an exciting and successful year.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me anytime by e-mail at ssmith@hpschools.org (this is the best way) or at 865-8152. If you are having any difficulties, please ask for help! I am free during periods 1 and 3 as well as before and after school.

I have read and understand the requirements and expectations of this class.
