     Dear Parents and Students,

I'm so excited to have your child in my class this year. Thank you for entrusting me with the task of helping your child grow and learn! I'm excited to work with you and your child but I'm also excited about all the changes... New York State has overhauled the education curriculum and while it may be scary, there are a lot of exciting things in store. Everything you need to know, as well as the entire curriculum can be found at www.engageny.org. It's a great website that tells you everything about the new common core standards and curriculum shifts.

Third grade is a year of big transitions. Students come into third grade as children who have been guided along the way yet must leave here as independent, responsible fourth graders. It is my job to be the mother bird that kicks her babies out of the nest and teaches them how to fly! I love watching the growth that takes place in third grade. Your support is so important. As a team, we can ensure your child succeeds and thrives.

We start right out with multiplication in math. Please make sure your child is practicing their multiplication facts nightly. It is a very very important skill needed in fourth grade; one that will be built upon through out the year!

I hope you take some time to browse my site. I have a lot of useful information about my classroom and procedures, games to reinforce skills in practically every subject on this website. I work hard to continually update it and add new games to keep things fresh. Please remember to check out "Useful Links" that will connect you to wonderful games and activities that will help your child practice third-grade skills. Check it out!

As always, a good relationship with parents is very important to me. Communication is key in ensuring your child's success. Please always feel free to contact me anytime with any questions or concerns. You may call the school, but the best way to reach me is through email (acarnevale@hpschools.org) since I always have access to the computer but can't always get to the phone.

    Sincerely,
    Mrs. Carnevale
