Bird Observatory Takes Flight at Holland Patent Middle School
The Holland Patent Middle School is excited to announce the launch of a Bird Observatory Project in our library! This interactive space invites students to explore the wonders of bird watching through our Migration Station, complete with birdhouses, seed-filled feeders and a wide selection of books, magazines and articles.
A key feature of this project is the Golden Knights Guide to Birding, where students learn to identify different bird species using iPads and the Merlin Bird ID and eBird apps to log sightings. By participating, they become citizen scientists, contributing to real-world research on bird migration!
Students can also "Choose Their Own Flight Path" with fun, hands-on activities in STEM, art, reading, writing and research—all themed around birds.
To continue the experience at home, students can join our dedicated Google Classroom for extended learning opportunities.
The feedback is in—and students say it is a raven review and a real hoot!
