Chromebook Tips

  • If you or your students experience an issue accessing content on your chromebook (even in Google Classroom), the first thing to try is clearing the cache and cookies on the machine.  Here is how you do that:

    • At the top-right, click More More.
    • Click More tools and then Clear browsing data.
    • At the top, choose a time range. To delete everything, select All time.
    • Next to 'Cookies and other site data' and 'Cached images and files', tick the boxes.
    • Click Clear data.
    • Completely shut down and restart the device

Has your cursor turned into a circle?  If your chromebook has started to function differently (inverted colors, keyboard difficulties, etc.), it's possible you're accidentally turned on an accessibility feature.   To check:

    • Click in the bottom right corner where the time appears.
    • Click on Accessibility features
    • If any of the options listed there are turned on and you don't want them on, turn them off.
    • If that does not solve the problem,  go back to the Accessibility settings and click on the gear in the top right corner to open additional options,
    • Click on Manage Accessibility Features
    • Make sure none only the options you want are turned on.

    Taking a screenshot:

    • The CTRL+Window Switcher key combination will take a screenshot.
    • You can capture a specific area of the screen by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+Windows Switcher key combination.
